SLOVAKIA (GYMES) - ABOUT THE COUNTRY AND THE SCHOOL Gymnázium sv. Edity Steinovej is a 5-year English bilingual secondary school in Košice, Slovakia. Age of students ranges from 14 up to 20. Our students are being prepared mainly for university studies both in foreign, mainly European countries, as well as Slovak ones. We focus particularly on English language as a mean to allow our students to be successful and achieve academic goals. Apart of ussual lessons of English language there is a great deal of other subjects taught in English including English and American Literature, English Grammar, Communication in English, followed by Sciences (Maths, Biology, Chemistry) and Humanies, such as History and Geography. We participate in various projects that support informal education, personal development and growth (international programmes like Duke of Edinburgh International Award, Collegium of Anton Neuwirth, former Commenius or present Erasmus+ KA1 and KA2 projects, social volunteering, artistic, sport, linguistic and academic competitions etc.). There are two official languages that are being used during teaching and learning process at our school - Slovak mother tongue and English language. Spanish, German and Russian language are spoken correspondingly on second foreign language lessons. We do our best to help our students with their development on two levels - intellectual and personal. Our staff consists of teaching professionals (up to 40 teachers), non-teaching staff (up to 20 persons) and school management. We continually try to improve in order to create the best environment possible for our students. We believe that upcycling culture can make a huge impact on way how our students perceive reality and everyday life.
